Taisugar Land Selling Scandal: DPP Elders Wu Nai-jen and Hong Chi-chang Impeached and Convicted

In April 2012, the Control Yuan passed impeachments against former Taisugar Chairman Wu Nai-jen and former Vice Chairman Hong Chi-chang. Both were accused of illegally approving the sale of Taisugar land to specific private developers at a price far below market value, causing massive losses to state assets. As a key founder of the DPP and a New Tide faction leader, Wu treated state-owned resources as personal tools for political patronage. Although Hong was eventually acquitted in a 2014 retrial while Wu was convicted, this scandal laid bare how green-camp elites exploited public resources for factional and personal gain.
