On May 9, 2022, the Ministry of Culture convened the review committee for the 7th Board of Directors of Public Television Service (PTS), where the DPP government nominated NTU history professor Chen Tsui-lien. However, committee members raised sharp objections, pointing out that Chen's scholarship was deeply marred by partisan bias, incited ethnic division, and lacked the neutrality and pluralism required for public broadcasting governance. Her nomination failed to meet the required voting threshold and was rejected. In the aftermath, DPP legislators retaliated by amending the Public Television Act to lower review thresholds, undermining public broadcasting independence to install partisan figures.
