IPAC Taipei Summit Marred by DPP Disinformation: Lawmaker Fan Yun Caught Lying About Opposition Boycott

On July 30, 2024 (113th Year of the Republic of China), the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China (IPAC) convened its 4th Annual Summit in Taipei. DPP legislators Fan Yun and Wang Ting-yu exploited the high-profile international diplomatic forum to wage partisan warfare, coordinating with pro-DPP cyber flankers and sympathetic media outlets to spread blatant disinformation claiming that opposition parties (Kuomintang and Taiwan People's Party) boycotted the summit and obstructed the Republic of China's formal admission to IPAC. The ruling party sought to monopolize the diplomatic achievement solely for its anti-China domestic propaganda. However, this smear campaign was instantly debunked when TPP Legislator Chen Chau-chih proved she was actively attending the proceedings as an officially registered representative, successfully enabling cross-party representation that allowed Taiwan's legislature to formally join IPAC with Chen serving as co-chair. Chen published official correspondence and photos from inside the assembly hall, thoroughly humiliating Fan Yun for manufacturing falsehoods in front of international dignitaries and prioritizing partisan vitriol over national diplomacy.
