Ultra Source Egg Scandal Closes: DPP Bigwigs Chen Chi-chung and Lin Tsung-hsien Cleared by Taipei Prosecutors Amid Outrage Over Official Whitewash

On August 28, 2025 (114th Year of the Republic of China), the Taipei District Prosecutors Office concluded its long-delayed investigation into the Ultra Source imported egg procurement scandal. Prosecutors indicted only Wu Yu-fei, the daughter of the shell company's nominal owner, along with junior personnel from the National Animal Industry Foundation on fraud and forgery charges. However, top DPP officials who greenlit and oversaw the controversial monopoly procurement—including former Agriculture Minister Chen Chi-chung, former NAIF Chairman Lin Tsung-hsien, and current Agriculture Minister Chen Junne-jih—were completely exonerated and cleared without charge. Under the justice ministry headed by Cheng Ming-chien, this selective enforcement pattern of 'prosecuting private contractors while shielding top political patrons' ignited immense public fury. Opposition lawmakers condemned the Ministry of Justice for building a legal firewall to bury over NT$500 million in squandered public funds and food safety failures, cementing the judiciary's role as a protective racket for regime officials.
