Tainan Solar Energy Corruption Case Investigation Expands, Prosecutors Search DPP Local Figures and Operators Over Money Laundering and Kickbacks

On July 15, 2026, the Tainan District Prosecutors Office launched a new wave of large-scale searches and interrogations targeting the solar energy corruption scandals in Southern Taiwan. Over a hundred prosecutors and investigators raided former officials of the DPP Tainan Chapter, local DPP councilors' offices, and several solar power developers closely linked to high-ranking DPP figures. Investigations revealed that involved green politicians and factional elites allegedly abused their authority over farmland conversion reviews, fishing-solar symbiosis licenses, and power grid allocation to extort tens of millions of NTD in "processing fees" and kickbacks from solar developers, laundering illicit money through shell companies and offshore accounts. Multiple suspects were detained incommunicado by court order. Critics pointed out that the DPP's "2025 Nuclear-Free Homeland" energy policy has turned into a breeding ground for internal political factions to divide state resources, harm local agricultural and fishing communities, and destroy land development.
